Directions to the conference venue:
Most of the sessions (even Zoom sessions! see "Conference Logistics") will be hosted at the Fordham Law School Building, which is 150 W 62nd St. Please see the map above. There is a small exception: on the first day (Thursday), the Zoom "watch parties" will be held in the Plaza View Room in the Leon Lowenstein Building (directions to the Plaza View Room: not every elevator in the Lowenstein Building goes to the 12th floor. If you take an elevator that only reaches the 11th floor of the Lowenstein building, there are stairs leading to the 12th floor).
When you enter the building, you may be prompted to provide an ID card. Please let the security officials know that you are attending an academic event sponsored by the philosophy department. Additionally, Stephen and Peter will have registered all of your names with the security officials at the entrance. If you have trouble getting in, please call or text either of us (phone numbers will have been sent out via email) and we'll be able to come and make sure you can get in.
Please ensure that you have a photograph or physical copy of your vaccination records!
Directions to Midtown Manhattan:
If you are flying into either JFK or LaGuardia Airport, there are a few options to navigate to midtown Manhattan, if that is where you are staying.
Car services:
A city taxi is likely to be much cheaper than an Uber or a Lyft. (Also, the logistics of hailing an Uber or a Lyft from the airports are sometimes quite a nuisance; so it may be simpler to queue for a taxi.) If you are coming from JFK, there is a flat rate on all taxi services. If you are coming from LGA, you can expect to pay $35-45 for a taxi. There are taxi queue lines available at both airports right outside of the baggage claim area. If you do choose a taxi, ensure that when you give the taxi your intended destination (whether it is via an exact address or the closest intersection), be sure to mention that you are going to Manhattan, since the different boroughs of NYC sometimes share street numbers.
Public transit:
Each of JFK and LGA has public transit service to connect to the rest of the city.
JFK: You'll want to take the AirTrain and connect to the NYC Subway at Jamaica Station. Then, at Jamaica Station, you'll take the E subway. If you are staying close-ish to Fordham's campus, the closest stop should be "7th Ave/53rd St" on the E train.
LGA: You'll want to take the Q70 LTD bus service and connect to the NYC Subway at "Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Ave". Then, you can transfer to the E, F, M, R, and 7 subway lines. If you are staying close to Fordham's campus, we recommend taking the E or the F.
